A constable from Agra, along with two accomplices, has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a young man and demanding ransom from his family, as reported by officials.
On Thursday, police confirmed the arrest of Monu Talan, also known as Sonu, and his associates Rahul Singh and Rajkumar in connection with the abduction of 22-year-old Harshvardhan. The trio reportedly demanded a ransom of five lakh rupees from the victim's family.
According to police, Harshvardhan, a resident of Rampur Chandrasaini, was last seen on September 22 while heading to the market for some shopping. Later that night, the family received a call from Harshvardhan's phone, informing them of his kidnapping and the ransom demand. His brother, Kushpal Singh, promptly alerted the authorities.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Monu Talan, stationed at the Saiya police station, had conspired with his two accomplices to carry out the kidnapping. Talan has a history of involvement in previous cases and had been suspended earlier. The police successfully rescued Harshvardhan and took all three suspects into custody.
Officials stated that the kidnappers initially lured Harshvardhan to Kargil Chowk under the pretense of a meeting. Once they realized he had no money, they devised a plan to extort ransom from his family, keeping him in a car from the night of September 22 until the following day.
The police tracked down the suspects using mobile location data and recovered an unregistered vehicle used in the crime. Deputy Commissioner of Police Sonam Kumar announced that a case of kidnapping for ransom has been filed, and the accused have been presented in court, where they were remanded to judicial custody.
